This course will examine how gender is socially constructed throughout the life-course in American society. An emphasis on social problems related to gender will also be examined on both an individual and structural level, while utilizing historical and modern theoretical perspectives. Topics for study include current sociological research on masculinities, sexual assault, sex trafficking, objectification and the intersections of identity around race/class and sexuality. This course meets a requirement in Women Studies and American Culture and Difference and fulfills the Human diversity requirement in the core curriculum.
