This graduate course introduces the student to the principles and operation of electric machines common to the power industry. The course includes: review of 3-phase power, magnetics, 3 phase transformers, synchronous machines, induction machines and power DC machines. The course concludes with an introduction on how electric machines are used in electric vehicles. Course prerequisites are foundational topics of AC electricity such as: phasor analysis and diagrams, AC and complex power (active and reactive powers).
