This course will focus broadly upon both legal and equitable remedies. The underlying goals and objectives of awarding remedies will be discussed, as well as the various legal vehicles available to obtain those goals and also whether the law adequately and appropriately achieves those goals. A wide range of both substitutionary and specific remedies will be discussed in depth, with particular attention upon compensatory damages (and related doctrines), injunctive relief, punitive remedies, ancillary remedies (such as contempt, collection, attorneys' fees, and others) and remedial defenses.
