The Global Team Practicum serves similar purposes as the other practica with the addition of being conducted in another country and culture and in a team structure. This course will run for whole cohort. This is an opportunity to continue developing your practice skills, working collaboratively with others in service to the client and project, and learning to be effective and adaptable in a different culture than your own. The Global Team Practicum will be supervised by the two faculty who organize and participate with you. They will serve as your practicum advisors jointly with being the course faculty. A deeper understanding of cultural implications for OD requires critical exploration, both individually and in your teams. During the course you will use transformative learning pedagogy and explore the various aspects of both the work and the lived-experience. Discussions and debriefs will include what’s happening in the project(s), what individuals are experiencing, how OD practices are working and how they need to be adapted, and synthesizing learnings. This course will include critical classroom or online instruction and dialogue leading up to and following the visit as well as numerous periods of reflection and discussion during time at the client sight and within the other country. At the close of this course, students will examine their professional experience through the lens of Transformative Learning Theory, which returns full circle to the way OD professionals reflect upon their assumptions in order to develop a global practice that is increasingly flexible, critically-reflective, and culturally empathic.
