W. B. Yeats and James Joyce transformed our understanding of myth, human consciousness, and post-coloniality. At the forefront of “the Irish Revival,” these two profoundly important authors wrote to regain a sense of Ireland’s heroic past to break away from the British empire, thereby beginning its downfall. Dr. David Gardiner (UST Director of Irish Studies) and Dr. Derek Hand (Dean of Dublin City University) will explore Yeats’s poetry and Joyce as they address the combination of history, literature, politics, and religion in their work and Irish literature.
