A study of philosophical problems connected with human law and legal institutions. Possible topics include the nature and kinds of law, the relation of law and morality, analysis of legal concepts, the nature and justification of punishment, and the principles of legal interpretation and reasoning. Attention will be given to both classical and contemporary authors. Prerequisite: PHIL 214 or 215
